Pepper-red villas stacked against steep Tuscan cliffsides, overlooking an indigo sea – the cheery, vibrant atmosphere of Il Pellicano can be seen from far offshore.
Set amidst olive and cypress trees in an extraordinary coastal setting at Porto Ercole on the breathtaking Tuscan coastline in Italy sits Relais & Châteaux’ acclaimed Il Pellicano, a secluded seaside resort property on the ruggedly beautiful Tyrrhenian coastline.
Il Pellicano is situated on the southeastern tip of the Tuscan peninsula of Monte Argentario, close to the pretty seaside town of Porto Ercole and in the region of Grossetto. Monte Argentario is close to the two famous islands of Giglio and Giannutri, and a little more than two hours from Rome’s international airport.
The main Il Pellicano swimming pool (with heated sea water) sits on the cliff edge overlooking the Tyrrenhian Sea. The cottages and suites cascade down the cliff edge dotting this rocky, pine-carpeted peninsula, a spur on Italy’s kneebone 150 km north of Rome. The atmosphere in this family run property lies between exclusive club and luxury private home. An elevator takes you down to where the sea meets the rock face to a secluded sun deck and bathing platform. There’s an underground garage were guests park their prestige cars and a cliffside restaurant with panoramic ocean views that received 2 Michelin stars – again – in 2010. N.B. open April to October.
